Gleyber Torres and Gary Sanchez Continue to Beat Down the Baltimore Orioles Pitching Staff

Tell me if this sounds familiar: “Like a good Gleyber, Torres is there,” or “Gary is Scary.” Yes those are John Sterling’s home run calls for New York Yankees Gleyber Torres and Gary Sanchez, which could be hear quite frequently this season when matched up with the Baltimore Orioles.

The Baltimore Orioles have the second worst record in all of baseball (thanks to the Miami Marlins,) and a huge reason for their struggles can be attributed to their pitching staff. The Orioles have a league worst 5.63 ERA, while giving up 97 home runs (10 more than the second ranked team). When you combine the inept O’s pitching staff, and the New York Yankees power, you get yourself a fireworks show. However the production of two of the Bronx Bombers, Gleyber Torres and Gary Sanchez against the Baltimore Orioles is starting to look like assault.

Last night Torres hit his 9th and 10th home runs of the season, which capped off his third multi home run game of the season, and his second against the Baltimore Orioles. Of Torres’ ten HR’s, a surreal EIGHT have come at the expense of Orioles pitchers. But Torres’ success goes beyond the deep fly, as he is hitting .486 with 8 HRs, 3 Doubles, 4 Walks and just 6 Strike outs in just 9 games this season. Just absurd production in such a short time frame for Torres vs the Orioles. I’m sure Torres is licking his chops knowing there are still another 9 games left vs the Orioles.

Torres isn’t the only Yankees player who is thriving against the woeful O’s pitching, as Gary Sanchez has also been tormenting them all season long. In Sanchez’ 9 games vs the Orioles so far, he has hit 7 Home runs, driving in 13 runs, with a whopping 32 total bases. Earlier in the season, Sanchez had himself a 3 home run game against the Orioles.  Last night’s go ahead 3-run home run in the 9th inning to cap off the Yankees comeback win was peak Sanchez and Torres vs the Orioles this season.

No matter what the Orioles pitching staff throws their way, Torres and Sanchez continue to send it into orbit. With another 9 games scheduled between the two teams, expect plenty more long homers and hard hit balls by the Yankees against the Orioles.
